WASHINGTON D.C. YOUTH TOUR
The NRECA Washington, D.C. Youth Tour takes place in June every year. Youth Ambassador Students on the tour learn about electric cooperatives, American history and U.S. government. The Youth Tour is available only through Eau Claire Energy Cooperative Youth Ambassador Program and is valued at $2,000 per student.
This covers all planned activities including: air fare, coach bus tours, admission to performances and landmarks, meals, and lodging. Students will also have the chance to meet other students from around the country who are involved with their local energy cooperative. Because this is a coveted tour, students must be a part of the Youth Ambassador Program to apply.
ACTIVITIES
- Attend a variety of educational seminars
- See historic sights of Washington D.C.
- Visit House and Senate representatives
- Attend an All States Dinner Dance as a farewell event
- Form lifetime connections with students from across the country
- And more!
REQUIREMENTS
- Be an active participant in Youth Ambassador Program through ECEC
- To apply students must write an essay (300 word min.) describing at least 10 different ways a family could conserve energy in their home.
- The students then give a presentation to their fellow Youth Ambassadors, who in turn vote for the two students they think should go on the tour.
